Cross-trainers of a different sort, these Hawaii Health Systems Corporation team members are committed to continuity of services: Vernalyn (Pua) Uson, Juanita Lauti and Joanne Agnes of human resources, Lafoga Bumanglag of payroll, and Vincent Ho of IT.
Juanita Lauti, human resources director at Hawaii Hospital Systems Corporation (HHSC), is a firm believer in cross-training. This helps HHSC seamlessly fill a puka when an employee is not available to perform his or her job, ensuring HHSC operations continue to run smoothly.
Cross-training provides more variety in employees’ work, more opportunities for staff interaction, additional opportunities for advancement through the learning of new job skills, and greater teamwork within HHSC as each employee becomes more aware of what other employees do. The cross-training of the HHSC HR staff positions the team to quickly acclimate and learn any new processes or skills needed for new payroll system implementation. Way to go, HHSC!
