SUBJECT: Important Reminder to File the Final Election Period Report
The Hawaii Campaign Spending Commission (“Commission”) would like to recognize your participation in the 2024 election and remind you that our records show that you are a committee whose aggregate contributions and aggregate expenditures for the election period total $1,000 or less. Accordingly, pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes (“HRS”) §11-339(a), you are required to electronically file the Final Election Period Report covering the period from January 1, 2024 through November 5, 2024 no later than 11:59 p.m. Hawaiian standard time on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Failure to timely file this report will result in a fine.
If you disclose in the Final Election Period Report that your committee had aggregate contributions and aggregate expenditures greater than $1,000, then you will be required to file all of the prior disclosure reports applicable to your situation for the 2024 elections. The Commission may assess administrative fines for your failure to timely file the earlier reports.
If your committee has a surplus or deficit, you must continue to file reports on the committee’s electronic filing system until the surplus has been spent or the deficit has been cleared and a request to terminate has been approved by Commission staff. See, HRS §11-339(b). Please visit the Commission website after the November 5th General Election to obtain the applicable reporting schedule for reports due beyond the December 5, 2024 deadline.
If, however, your committee has no surplus or deficit and would like terminate its registration with the Commission, you can file the Final Election Period Report early and submit a “Request for Termination of Registration” form which is available on our website. Upon approval from the Commission to terminate, you will not be required to file any future reports.
