As a State of Hawaii employee, you can enter your direct deposit information online using the new HIP Employee Self-Service feature, to ensure that your paycheck from the new payroll system is electronically deposited into your bank or credit union.
Once you have your financial institution’s routing number and your account number (see below for assistance), follow the instructions to set up your direct deposit. See special instructions for University of Hawaii employees to use your UH single sign-on.
If you need help, please contact [email protected] or (808) 201-SERV [7378] (Oahu) if you need assistance.
Act 110, SLH 1998 requires employees to use direct deposit rather than receiving a paper check, if they are not casual employees and were hired on or after July 1, 1998.
Even though many State employees have direct deposit arrangements currently, the State of Hawaii has never had “true” Automated Clearing House (ACH) direct deposit with most financial institutions. Until this point, the State of Hawaii has printed checks to send to financial institutions instead of wiring the money. With the new payroll system implementation, true ACH direct deposit will finally be implemented and money will be posted to your financial institution via ACH.
You will need to set up your direct deposit information using the new HIP Employee Self-Service feature because your current information is not in a format that can be transferred into the new system. Once you’re issued a HIP User ID letter, follow the instructions printed on the reverse of the letter to set up your direct deposit.
To determine the routing number, you should contact your financial institution. Many financial institutions post their routing number on their website. Also, you can find it on your checks; see illustration below.
The routing number and account number will be listed on your checks for your checking account, such as in the example below. [Note that not all financial institutions follow the sequence on the sample check below.]
To find your savings account number, look at your savings account statement or contact your bank or credit union directly.
