HONOLULU – The photos of 31 current and former Comptrollers and Deputy Comptrollers, along with Gov. Josh Green, M.D., and Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, now grace a fourth-floor wall at the Kalanimoku Building. The picture frames are just outside the Comptroller’s office.

“The creation of this wall was a collective effort to honor the remarkable work and contributions of our former leadership,” says current DAGS Director and Comptroller Keith Regan. “It is truly humbling and a great honor to practice servant leadership in this role. I am privileged to join the ranks of those who have served before me.”

DAGS was formally established in 1959, but has roots going back to the mid-1800s because some of the divisions it now manages were established at even earlier dates. Public Works Division, for instance, was set up as a bureau in 1845.

Communications Officer Diane Ako began the task in December 2024, shortly after joining the state. It took eight months to hunt for the photos.

This was definitely a team effort. Special thanks goes to Automotive Management Division, Hawaiʻi State Archives, Enterprise Technology Services, Personnel and Central Services Division for their roles in making this happen.
