The Public Archives of Hawaiʻi is Open

Posted on Mar 13, 2020 in HSA News

The Hawaiʻi State Archives is still open and available to all researchers and we welcome the public to discover new treasures and stories of the past. Though due to the growing concerns about COVID-19, our commitment is not only to care for the irreplaceable and valuable documents and artifacts of the Public Archives, but also to ensure the safety of the public and our staff. Therefore we are taking some cautionary steps to help reduce the risk of transmission by doing the following:

  • All tables, chairs and pencils in the Public Research Room are wiped down with sanitizing wipes nightly
  • All door handles are wiped down with sanitizing spray three times a day
  • Bathrooms are cleaned with a bleach solution every morning
  • All patrons to use the hand sanitizing station at the front door of the facility prior to entering the Public Research Room

For the safety of our researchers and staff, we implore you to stay home if you are not feeling well; not only for your safety and health as you rest and recover, but also to help protect our kupunas and those that have families or people they care for who visit our facility on a daily basis.

You can find up-to-date information about COVID-19 from the Hawaiʻi Department of Health (https://health.hawaii.gov/docd/advisories/novel-coronavirus-2019/), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html), and the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency (https://dod.hawaii.gov/hiema/).
