Photograph Collection

The Photograph Collection consists of several collections of photographs and scrapbook photo albums. The digitized scans can be found in our Digital Archives. Digitization of this collection is ongoing and more will be added as time permits. As a publicly supported institution Hawaiʻi State Archives does not charge permission fees for use of images and cannot give or deny permission to publish or otherwise distribute images in its collections. It is the user’s obligation to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions when publishing or otherwise distributing materials found in the Archives’ collections.

The nature of historical archival collections means that copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult or even impossible to determine. Whenever possible, Hawaii State Archives provides information about copyright owners and other restrictions in the catalog records or other texts that accompany collections. The Archives provides such information as a service to aid users in determining the appropriate use of an item, but that determination ultimately rests with the user.
