Obituary Index
Introduction
Obituaries appeared in newspapers as early as 1836 and there is an index in the Archives for 1836 to 1950. Newspapers indexed were primarily English language papers published in Honolulu. Death notices for prominent persons may be indexed as a news item rather than under obituaries. In which case you would need to check the index of a specific newspaper such as the Index to the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin and search by their name. The Hawaii State Public Library system has various print indexes.
